To further our commitment to a high level of care, Premier Veterinary Hospital has developed an advanced veterinary diagnostic department unlike any other in the East Texas area. Diagnostic testing helps our veterinarians detect disease early, pinpoint the cause of symptoms, and monitor how well treatment is working, often within the same visit.
In-House Laboratory Testing
Our laboratory features a state-of-the-art microscope for detailed sample evaluation and offers:
- Complete blood counts (CBC)
- Blood chemistry panels and electrolytes
- Coagulation panels. We are the only hospital in Tyler offering in-house coagulation testing.
- Urinalysis
- Cytology of skin, ear, and mass samples
- Intestinal parasite testing
- Heartworm and infectious disease testing, including rapid parvovirus tests
When specialized testing is needed, we partner with outside veterinary reference laboratories that provide rapid turnaround times.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound uses sound waves to create real-time images of your pet’s internal organs. It is non-invasive, painless, and radiation-free, and allows us to evaluate the liver, kidneys, bladder, spleen, intestines, and other organs. Ultrasound is invaluable for investigating digestive problems, kidney disease, abdominal masses, and swallowed objects.
Digital Radiography
Digital X-rays let us look inside the body in a completely non-invasive way, providing clear images of bones, joints, the chest, and the abdomen. Radiographs help diagnose fractures, arthritis, heart and lung disease, bladder stones, and intestinal blockages. Our digital system is safe, fast, and operated by a highly trained staff. We also use dental radiographs during every dental cleaning.
Endoscopy
For a closer look, our endoscopy and laparoscopy equipment allows us to view the inside of the airways, stomach, intestines, and urinary tract and collect biopsies without open surgery.

How quickly will I get my pet’s results?
Most in-house tests are completed during your visit or the same day. Outside reference lab results are typically returned quickly.
What is a coagulation panel?
A coagulation panel measures how well your pet’s blood clots. It is important before surgery and in cases of bleeding, trauma, or toxin exposure. We are the only hospital in Tyler offering it in-house.
Is ultrasound safe for my pet?
Yes. Ultrasound is painless, non-invasive, and uses no radiation.
Are X-rays safe for pets?
Yes. Digital radiography uses very low radiation doses and our staff follows strict safety protocols.
Does my pet need to be sedated for diagnostic imaging?
Many pets do not. Sedation may be recommended for anxious or painful pets or for certain views to get the clearest images.
Why does my healthy pet need bloodwork?
Screening bloodwork can reveal hidden problems early and establishes a baseline for comparison in the future.
